The Resident
Directors - R.D.s - Who they are and What they do
Our Resident Directors are full time, live-in, professional
staff members who are responsible for the overall administration
of their hall(s). We have 5 R.D.s in Gorham. Resident Directors
directly supervise their Resident Assistants, their hall security
desk staff and an Assistant Resident Director. Resident Directors
are responsible for programming and developmental activities
within the halls, including those emphasizing leadership,
community development and the promotion of diversity. They
also are there to implement judicial procedures and to act
as conflict mediators, to act as a resource, and often just
to simply listen to and socialize with their residents.

Our Residence Hall Coordinator is a full time, live-in, professional
staff
member who is responsible for the overall administration of
Portland
Hall, an urban residence hall complex housing students from
3 area
colleges and universities besides U.S.M., and which features
an on-
site parking lot, dining center and around-the-clock security
desk. The
Residence Hall Coordinator directly supervises his/her Resident
Assistants, the hall security desk staff and an Assistant
Residence Hall
Coordinator. Furthermore, programming and developmental activities
within the hall, including those emphasizing leadership, community
development and the promotion of diversity are priorities
for this
person. S/he is also there to implement judicial procedures,
act as
conflict mediator, to act as a resource, and often just to
simply listen

The Resident Assistants - R.A.s
- Your campus connection
Our Resident Assistants are University of Southern Maine
student staff members who live and work directly with resident
students. The R.A.s work as peers, helping residents with
a broad range of issues and situations. They are there to
provide information about campus services and resources, to
plan and implement hall programs, to enforce University and
Department policies, and to encourage the formation of holistic
communities. Our R.A.s are not only students, but are an integral
part of the Department of Residential Life and are here to
help. They are fun, friendly and knowledgable - get to know
them!
