Dear Viewer,
A new year is upon us, and it’s only just beginning. Once again we find ourselves buried beneath the tedious chore of buying overly-priced textbooks, countless reams of notebook paper, and moving in with strangers who will become closer than we like – whether to us or to our possessions. Perhaps it is your first time at the University of Southern Maine. Maybe you’re a returning student. This will be my third year haunting this campus, and, coincidentally my third year managing channel two. We’ve had our ups and down since I first started, and now it’s time for one more go.
Some things to expect this year: big changes. After two years of trial and error I believe we’ve finally come up with a working schedule. Monday thru Friday at 9:00pm there will be movies showing, and Thursdays will be the Double Feature event of the week. Along with the films we will also provide a new lineup of student projects. We’re aiming to please; hopefully we’re successful.
With that said, some things to take into consideration as a viewer: GTV is a completely student-run television station. This means that anybody who is a student at USM cam become involved. Should you? Yes. Without the support of viewers, GTV would not exist. At the same time, if there are hundreds of viewers and no filmmakers involved, there is no tv station because nobody wants to watch the same shows over and over. We’re hoping you can help us solve this problem.
We’re living in the YouTube generation where entertainment is unlimited and constantly at our fingertips. In short, we love to be amused. The occasional artistic film is appreciated, but, let’s face it. No matter how many times we watch “Crash”, I can guarantee that “Charlie the Magical Unicorn” will always hold a special place in our hearts. And what would our world be like without the cross-dressing antics of “Shoes”? I know you guys have some outrageous stuff to offer, and so I’m asking you all to get it out there. Help us to become an entertaining campus station that reflects the sense of humor of the student body as well as the creativity we all have. Give us a look into your imaginations – however outrageous and scary they may be.
If you wish to be an employee of the station, you must have work study funds in your financial aid package. If you don’t have work study, you can still become involved by volunteering. You can get all your work out there, and hey, it’ll look good on your resume. The application is online here at this website. Follow the links. It’ll only take five minutes of your time, and I can promise there’s no easier way to get your films on a television station. We want as many people involved this year as we can get.
With all that said, I believe I’ve rambled on enough. At any rate, tune in, sit back, and as always, let us entertain you.
