Minor in Nature Based Tourism
Career Options
The Nature Based Tourism Minor combines coursework in environmental science and outdoor recreation to provide students with an introductory knowledge of ecotourism, outdoor recreation leadership, and nature interpretation. Safe and responsible use of outdoor environments is a prime focus of the minor. Enrollment in the Nature Based Tourism Minor can increase one’s understanding and enjoyment of nature while enhancing future employment opportunities in ecotourism and adventure recreation businesses, wilderness equipment outfitters, or organizations that focus on environmental education. The minor is open to undergraduate students.

Nature Tourism Minor
The Nature Tourism Minor is jointly offered by the Department of Recreation & Leisure Studies, College of Nursing and Health Professions and the Department of Environmental Science, School of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology.
It combines coursework in environmental science and outdoor recreation to provide students with an introductory knowledge of ecotourism, outdoor recreation leadership, and nature interpretation. Safe and responsible use of outdoor environments is a prime focus of the minor.

REC 223/ESP 223: Nature Based Tourism 3 cr
ESP 101K & ESP102K: Fundamentals of Environmental Science with Lab 4 cr
REC 233: Outdoor Recreation 3 cr
ESP 203W: Environment Communications 3 cr
REC 218: Wilderness Emergency Response 3 cr
REC 224: Inclusive Leisure Services 3.0 cr
Non-Business Majors must take one of the courses below:
BUS 101: Getting Down to Business 3.0 cr
BUS 200: Intro to Business 3.0 cr
Note: Not all classes are offered every semester.
