Welcome to our web site. Our school of business is located in Portland, Maine, the largest urban area in the State of Maine, singled out as “one of the ten most livable cities in the USA.”
Our 30 full-time faculty are proud that we are accredited by an international organization, the Association for Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This places us in the top 25% of North American schools of business and the top 8% of schools of business world wide. Among other requirements, our faculty are expected to conduct original research, so we not only transmit knowledge, we create it.
In spite of being a state-supported school, we also take pride in our small class sizes, most of which are 40 students or less. We offer majors in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and “tracks” or concentrations in Sport Management, International Business, Entrepreneurship, and, effective Fall ’08, Insurance.
Our school has 700 undergraduate and 170 graduate students. The average age of our undergraduate students is in the med-twenties, which is older than many universities because many of them have work experience and bring this into our classrooms. Another distinguishing characteristic of our school is partnership with the area business community. So in addition to classroom instruction, our students receive the chance to interact – through class projects, individual projects, internships, and directed research projects – with local businesses. Our partnerships with active business also involve our “centers,” including the Center for Business and Economic Research, the Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Small Business Development Centers.
In short, both our undergraduate and graduate programs offer a mix of classroom and “real world” experience delivered by a faculty committed to helping students advance themselves in the fast-changing world of business. Please let us know how we can help you further explore our school.
