Application Process

To be eligible for a School of Business scholarship, you must plan to graduate no sooner than December 2010 and carry six or more credits during at least one semester of the academic calendar year the award is credited.

We encourage you to apply for every scholarship for which you are eligible. Check off the scholarships on the Scholarship Application Form for which you wish to apply. All completed documents must be emailed to jswift@usm.maine.edu. You will receive a confirmation email, usually within 48 hours, indicating receipt of materials. This confirmation does not indicate a complete application, only that your application submission was received.

You must submit a completed application which includes the following:

1. Completed USM School of Business Scholarship Application Form 2010/2011. It is better if you submit all electronic documents at once in a single email.

2. Two written references, using the USM School of Business Scholarship Reference Form.
You are encouraged to get at least one reference from a School of Business faculty member. (If applying for the William G. McGowan Scholarship, you must have at least one School of Business faculty member as a reference. A supplemental handout is available here for complete details.) Those providing a reference should be directed to email the completed form to jswift@usm.maine.edu, as instructed on the reference form. To confirm that references have been received, you may call the School of Business Office at (207)780-4022 or email jswift@usm.maine.ed.

3. Essay(s), if required. Your name and the name of the scholarship you are applying for must appear on each page of your essay. Essays should be typed, double-spaced and no longer than 2 pages per essay. All essays should be emailed (in MS Word or PDF format only) and emailed with your USM School of Business Scholarship Application Form.

4. Resume. A current resume is preferred. However, if you do not have a resume, a typed detailed statement covering the below criteria may be submitted in its place. Be sure to include dates, titles, locations, descriptions and any other petinent information. Your resume should be in either MS Word or PDF format.
a. Academic honors and awards received
b. Academic Activities
c. Work/Internship Experience
d. Volunteer/Service Experience
e. Extracurricular Activities

5. Unofficial Transcript (available through MaineStreet). To view your transcript in MaineStreet, log into your account, click on "Student Self-Service," then click on "Student Center," then in the "Academics" section, select "Unofficial Transcript" from the pull down menu. Once you have your transcript on the screen, select the text by dragging the cursor from the word "Unofficial" down to the bottom of the transcript. Select "Copy" from the "Edit" menu. Now start MS Word and create a new document. In the new document, click on the "Edit" menu and select "Paste" or press "Control and V" on the keyboard to paste your unofficial transcript into the document. Save the document and include as an attachment in the email also containing the scholarship application.

6. USM School of Business Release of Information Form. This must be signed and dropped off at the School of Business Office.
