The University of Southern Maine’s School of Business is the “best choice for Portland-area professionals” for the second consecutive year, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company features the school in the new edition of its annual guidebook “The Best 295 Business Schools: 2014 Edition.”
According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review senior vice president-publisher, "We recommend the University of Southern Maine as one of the best institutions a student could attend to earn a business school degree.” The USM School of Business is one of 78 schools in the northeast and the only school in the state of Maine to be selected.
Top schools were selected based on institutional data and survey results of more than 20,000 students worldwide. The online surveys, conducted during the 2012-13, 2011-12, and 2011-10 academic years, focused on academic experience, admissions, career opportunities, and faculty engagement.
Current students praised the program’s strong connection with area and regional businesses, “convenient class times,” “relatively low cost,” and “very professional” faculty who have strong backgrounds and experience in their fields.
Students emphasized the central role that Maine businesses play in the curriculum and identified a rigorous internship program and proactive career placement office as two of the school’s distinguishing features. Recent student internships have included placements within AAA Northern New England, Acadia Insurance, Baker Newman Noyes, BerryDunn, Berry Talbot Royer, Boston Celtics, Iberdrola, IDEXX, Kraft Foods, Key Bank, L.L. Bean, Macpage LLC, Maine Red Claws, Portland Sea Dogs, Prudential, TD Bank, and WEX.
“We’re proud to be recognized by our students and The Princeton Review as a top business school and best choice for business degree seekers in Maine,” said Joseph McDonnell, dean of the USM College of Management and Human Service. “Our faculty are dedicated to student-centered learning and providing opportunities for students to develop valuable skills and knowledge through cutting-edge curriculum and internship opportunities. We’re developing stronger ties to businesses throughout Maine and the region each year to give students the real-world experiences they need to compete in a global environment.”
The USM School of Businesses is located on the USM Portland campus and is accredited by AACSB International.
