A Travelogue of China and Tibet

Come on a photographic journey to see a land so different from our own, with its Great Wall of China and Terracotta Warriors.  Cruise down the Yangtze River through the Three Gorges and then on the Tibet.  There we'll see the spectacular Potala Palace with its 1,000 rooms, Buddhist Monks praying, prayer wheels spinning and colorful prayer flags reaching the sky.  Rachel Morin, a globe trotting traveler, will take attendees on a behind the scenes glimpse of China and Tibet.  Rachel's appearance at the Library for this exclusive program is made possible through a cooperative effort with Lewiston Auburn Senior College.

Begin your journey aboard Queen Mary II with a short stay in London before making the six day crossing of the Atlantic from Southhampton, England to New York.  Your captain, June Speer, has been educator throughout New England as well as in England, Germany and Spain.  June is an instructor for L/A Senior College and her presentation is made possible through a collaboration with the College.

The phone line will not be checked after 12:00 noon that day and late calls will be considered "at the door".

In order to keep costs down, we ask that if you have registered and are unable to attend the event, please call 753-6510 BEFORE noon on Thursday, May 8 to let us know. We order food by our RSVPs and we must pay for what we order. Thank you.

Visit two of the most famous homes in America, as Alan Elze, instructor at Senior College, takes us on some truly grand open house visits.  Homes include Winterhur and Hearst Castle.

Winterthur: Visit the home of one of the most famous collectors of American Decorative Arts, Henry Francis DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware.  Learn about the life of DuPont and hear about his collection of over 85,000 objects.

Hearst Castle: One of the homes of William Randolph Hearst.  Hearst inherited a vast fortune and then added to it with his newspaper publishing empire.  He then built the Hearst Castle in California and furnished it with items from around the world.

This free program will take place in the Androscoggin Community Room.

L-A Senior College instructor, Dr. Charles Plummer, will be presenting a talk which he has titled, "The Playful Brain: The Surprising Science of How Puzzles Improve Your Mind" at the Auburn Public Library on the afternoon of May 20th from 2:00 to 4:00. He has taught several Senior College courses on how the brain grows and develops, how it is organized, and how its different parts function. In this presentation participants will be introduced to the latest scientific research that reveals how solving puzzles strengthens and improves brain functions.
