A Letter to Prospective Alumni
From Erin Underwood S'09 Popular Fiction
President of the Stonecoast Alumni Association
With diploma in hand we transition from student to alumnus/a, leaving behind the warm and welcoming community that has embraced us for the last two years. However, graduation is not the end of our Stonecoast experience. The Stonecoast Alumni Association (SCAA) warmly welcomes you into our community, where you will find an equally wonderful group of writers with whom you can socialize, network, and communicate.
The SCAA is committed to offering meaningful programs and benefits to our members, which include alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Since its inception, the SCAA has grown into a vibrant community of writers who are deeply engaged in the academic, literary, and professional worlds.
Looking back at the previous "Letters to Prospective Students," I believe Bruce Pratt's sentiments still ring true.
"The Alumni Association is determined to enhance Stonecoast's presence in the literary world. Through organized readings and presentations at major conventions such as AWP, Stonecoast panels at conferences and writing programs, endowed scholarships, public readings, regional and Stonehouse reunions and other highly visible activities showcasing the prodigious talent and experience of Stonecoast writers, we will increase our reputation in the academic, writing, and publishing communities." - Bruce Pratt, former SCAA President
Over the coming year, the Stonecoast Alumni Association will achieve some amazing goals, which should provide many more exciting opportunities for the Stonecoast community. I'm glad that you are all here to be a part of it. I also look forward to serving as your President and to hearing your thoughts on how we can make the SCAA an even better organization.
Sincerely,
Erin Underwood S'09 Popular Fiction
President, Stonecoast Alumni Association
