Charles Simic emigrated from Yugoslavia in the wake of World War II.  His first book, What the Grass Says,was published in 1967, and since then, Simic has published more than 60 books internationally. 

Simic has been honored many times over, with the Notable Book of the Year by theNew York Times, fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  He served as Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry in 2007.  Simic is Emeritus Professor of the University of New Hampshire.
