Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing

2016 Winter Residency Information Form - Room & Board Preference - MANDATORY

All Stonecoast MFA students attending residencies, including graduating students, commuters, and those attending in Ireland, must provide the Stonecoast staff with their room & board preference and emergency contact information by submitting this form each April (prior to summer residency) and October (prior to winter residency).

Our 2016 winter residency will be held entirely at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport, Maine from Friday, January 8th through Monday, January 18th. The deadline to submit this winter's Residency Information Form is October 21st, 2015.

Full room and board this winter will include 10 nights of lodging along with breakfast and lunch service. Dinner is not provided.

The commuter fee will include daily lunch service.

The Harraseeket Inn will accommodate students with special dietary needs. Please include this information in the appropriate field of this form.

Residency fees are collected by the program to pay for all services provided at the residency, not just for meals and lodging. These services include, but are not limited to, special events, the rental of classroom space, and transportation.

Full room & board students have the option of sharing a room with another student during the winter residency at a reduced rate. Students who select this option must include, in the comments field of this form, the name of the student with whom they have already discussed and agreed to share a room. Students who would like this option, but have not found another student with whom to share a room, should select full room & board and then state their interest to share with another person looking to do the same in the comments field of this form. We will do our best to facilitate these requests, but if we are unable, a single room will be assigned and the full rate will be applied.

The Harraseeket Inn has several two and three bedroom townhouses equipped with full kitchens. These "condos" are available to our group and offer students the ability to cook their own dinners. Any group of students interested in this option must present this request to us together, in full, as a group, in an email. Townhouse rooms (for each occupant) will be charged at the same full room & board rate as will be paid for a single room in the main building of the Inn. In order to book a townhouse it must be filled to capacity.

Students who choose the full room & board option will be lodged at the Harraseeket Inn, unless we happen to book out all of the available rooms. If we run out of rooms at the Harraseeket, lodging will be provided at the Hilton Garden Inn in (three blocks away) Freeport. Last winter we were able to accommodate all who requested lodging at the Harraseeket and we hope to be able to do the same this year. Occupying a few of the townhouses and having enough folks sign up to share rooms will help make this more likely. Students will be assigned to rooms in the order for which they are received. Please include any special room needs in the comments field of this form.

All requests for lodging at our group rates must be made through the submission of this form . PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE INN DIRECTLY TO BOOK A ROOM ON YOUR OWN. Rooms at the Harraseeket are being held for our program exclusively and can only be booked by our office from your requests made via this Residency Information Form.

Graduating students who opt out of full room & board must select the commuter fee option. Should any non-full room & baord students want accommodations for a limited number of nights for themselves or for family members attending graduation, they should contact the Stonecoast MFA office via email at or by phone at 207-780-5262. We can arrange for students to be booked in to the Hilton Garden Inn at our group rate and family members at a discounted rate. If there are any room nights remaining at the Harraseeket Inn after we have booked all of our folks with full room & board, we will make those rooms available for our students. All graduating students opting out of full room & board, who are booked in to rooms at either hotel by the program, will have to pay each establishment directly for these room nights.

For students traveling from the west coast or overseas, we strongly advise arriving to the residency a day early in order to catch up with the time change and avoid fatigue on the first day. For these folks we can offer the option of 11 nights at the Harraseeket Inn starting a day earlier (at our group rate but with one extra night at their expense), or, for those also departing a day earlier, 10 nights of lodging starting on Thursday, January 7th and with check out on Sunday, January 17th. Another option is to stay at an airport area hotel on Thursday the 7th and take one of our shuttles to Freeport on Friday the 8th. If you are interested in booking an extra night or a night early please contact our office ( or by phone at 207-780-5262) well in advance and include this information in the comments field of this form.

We will provide transportation between Portland locations and the Harraseeket Inn for arrivals on Friday, January 8th and departures on Sunday, January 17th and Monday, January 18th. Students who want to take advantage of this services must submit the Transportation Request Form by early December.
