Leadership for Environmental and Economic Sustainability in Costa Rica
June 17-30, 2009
LOS 470 (6 Undergraduate Credits) or LOS 670 (3 Graduate Credits)
Lewiston Auburn College's Leadership Studies Department is offering the unique opportunity to visit beautiful Costa Rica to study and broaden your understanding of best leadership practices surrounding sustainability efforts. The class will be exploring five themes: Ecotourism, political and cultural perspectives, colonization and the coffee industry, ancient beliefs about the power of nature, and environmental sustainability. After studying and examining literature about these themes, we will travel to Costa Rica, where we will visit places such as Earth University, coffee bean plantations, museums, Spanish influenced architecture, rain forests, the Arenal lake, volcanoes, national parks and meet with political leaders in San Jose.
We will be hiking in national parks and recommend that you walk one to two miles each day at least one month prior to departure. If you are unable to hike over various types of terrain, please contact the Office of International Programs. The university will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities upon request.
