Profile

Sara is a native of Miami, FL and a graduate of Auburn University in Hotel and Restaurant Management. She has over ten years of work experience in event management and worked her way up from Banquet Server to Assistant Banquet Manager at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. She was nominated for the American Hotel & Lodging Association Stars of the Industry Award for the State of Alabama during her tenure at the Capella managed hotel. She also has considerable experience in food and beverage management with most recently working as Assistant Sommelier at La Mar and Azul, two high profile restaurants at the triple five-star Mandarin Oriental Miami. Sara has worked planning conferences and executing a variety of events as well as providing food service for major sporting events centered on the Auburn Tigers including: tailgating for thousands of fans for home football games, recruitment dinners for all sports, and events inside the Auburn Arena.

Throughout her graduate school career her research has focused around food safety. Her thesis entitled, Analyzing Food Safety Cultures: A Means to Improve Food Safety in the Catering Sector, won the best paper award at 17th Annual Hospitality and Tourism Graduate Student Education and Research Conference. Her dissertation focuses on food safety in the food truck sector and the effects that the rapid growth of the industry has had on food safety across the country.
