Direction Package Advisory Board Overview
The Direction Package Advisory Board (DPAB) was formed in fall 2013 by co-sponsors USM President Theo Kalikow and Faculty Senate Chair Jerry Lasala. It consisted of members from the student body, Faculty Senate Budget & Strategic Planning Committee, Professional and Classified Staff Senates, the USM Board of Visitors, the Alumni Board, and the USM Foundation. There were a total of 31 members.
The DPAB was charged with taking a careful look at USM budget and relevant data. This includes all the material compiled and reviewed by the President and Provost's Council during the 2013 summer, e.g., previous planning documents; information on perceived desires of current and prospective students; the competition we face for those students; workplace needs throughout Maine and the region; the value of what USM offers; and what we can do as well, if not better, than other institutions. The co-sponsors charged the DPAB to draft, tangible strategies and tactics to inform the development of the fiscal year '15 budget and beyond. DPAB members were also charged to communicate to their constituencies.
The Direction Package Advisory Board commenced meeting on November 8, 2013 and had five meetings of information gathering and reviewing of the planning data. They then decided to form into three working subgroups: Vision/Identity, Academic Programs, and Creating Operational Responsibility and Excellence (CORE). These three subgroups met from December 2013 to February 2014.
The Direction Package Advisory Board provided their final recommendations on Friday, February 28, 2014.
