Ira Hymoff is a licensed psychologist and has worked at
USM for over 35 years. He has taught group counseling and
Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in the graduate program in
counseling in the college of Education and also Childhood
Psychopathology the Social and Behavioral Sciences program
at Lewiston-Auburn College. Ira served as Director of
Counseling for over 20 years. He also had the opportunity
during a sabbatical year to study at the Institute for Group
Analysis in London and serve as a visiting fellow at the
University of Southampton and King Allred's College. He
served for 9 years on the Board of Examiners of
Psychologist, and was Chair for one year.
His clinical work involves individual counseling, as well
as couples work. He is comfortable in working within the
twelve session model of the counseling center with a
psychodynamic and humanistic focus. He also coordinates
crisis intervention services. He enjoys working with the
diverse students at USM and helping them reach their
personal and educational goals. His other interests include
opera, sports, travel and walking and listening to college
courses on tape.
