Web Content Management System Update -- May 7, 2011
As we enter into our final weeks of CMS Training Sessions prior to the launch, I’d like to thank you for your diligence and patience. In the past month, over 100 faculty and staff or about 50% of the departments and units have received training in our new Web content management system. We are far from complete, but to give you a preview of our new site to come, visit a few of the more complete sites:
With regard to future trainings, many have asked if they will continue. The answer is "yes." Trainings will continue into the summer and in the fall semester while Computing Services continues improving the functionality of the Web CMS. We will change the frequency and schedule as needed to match the demand.
To assist you in being prepared for the Web CMS launch, we will begin reviewing sites to gauge their readiness. We will begin this Tuesday (May 10, 2011) and progress through sites roughly in the order you attended the trainings. If you have not been to a training, or just participated in one, it will be a week from your training date before we will be able to review your site for you.
To be ready for launch, you should have at least the minimum required pages (below). Many of you have lots more content that makes up your site. Only you can tell how ready this additional content is. We will look at this additional content and provide some feedback about style, composition, and readiness where possible.
The minimum pages for launch:
- People; by creating individual pages
- Location & Hours
- Contact Us
- Quick Links
- Heading Image; at least one appropriate photo/image with text on the landing page
- Promotional Content; If you chose the layout with a promotional area
For Academic Departments
- Degrees & Certificates or Programs; which includes requirements and program of study
- Faculty biographical pages (displays under people)
For Administrative Departments
- Services; where applicable
For Units that contain other departments
If you have received training and need additional help, contact the HelpDesk at or call 780-4029.
We really appreciate your cooperation and help with this project.
