Maine Women's Studies Consortium

Since its establishment, the Maine Women’s Studies Consortium (MWSC) has served as a conduit for feminist research and pedagogy in the state of Maine. Its goal is to promote diversity and disciplinary excellence in Maine’s public and private educational systems, as well as collaborations and partnerships across the University of Maine System.

The chairship of the MWSC rotates. The University of Southern Maine’s Women & Gender Studies Program is the current coordinating campus partner.

Ongoing projects include:

Biennial Academic Conference: most recently hosted by the University of Maine at Augusta on International Women’s Day, Saturday, March 8, 2014 on the Augusta Campus.

Biennial Feminist Research Retreat: most recently hosted by University of Southern Maine in May 2013 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine.

Biannual meetings: the fall 2014 meeting will be hosted by the University of New England in Portland on Friday, October 3, 2014.

Membership in the Maine Women’s Studies Consortium is open to any higher education institution in Maine with an interest in  women’s/feminist/gender studies. Dues are $250/academic year per institution.
