When Students Act Administration Listens: A Panel Discussion on Student Activism

On Wednesday, October 23 the Gender Studies Student Organization and Divest UMaine are hosting "When Students Act Administration Listens: A Panel Discussion on Student Activism".

The Panel will tackle such questions as: What is the role of public universities? How is funding allocated to programs and departments at USM? What happens when a program is threatened? Should our university be investing in unethical practices? Wouldn’t it be great if students had more of a say?

Learn more about the history of student activism on campus. From the native student activism that led to the creation of Multicultural Student Affairs, to the movement to divest the UMaine System from Apartheid South Africa, students lifting their voices have asserted amazing power in shaping Maine's public universities.

Join the GSSO and Divest UMaine for tea and cookies, a panel discussion, and a dialogue regarding the path forward for USM in the face of ongoing threatened cuts to our programs. The panel will run from 7:15 to 9:30PM in the Talbot Lecture Hall located in Luther Bonney Hall on the Portland Campus.
