Directions to Twin Brooks and USM
The 2009 NCAA Division III New England Regional Men's and Women's Cross Country
Championship, hosted by the University of Southern Maine will be Saturday, November 14
at the Twin Brooks Recreational Center in Cumberland, Maine. Admission will be free of
charge. The women's race will be at 11:00 a.m. The men's race will be at 12 p.m.

There will be a MANDATORY NCAA Coaches' Meeting on Friday, November 13, 2009
at 8:15 p.m. in the Alumni Reception Room in the Costello Sports Complex on the USM Gorham campus.
The reception room is located off of the Ice Arena lobby. A $100 fine per institution will be imposed
on coaches who miss the meeting or are more than 15 minutes late.
Team packet pick up will also take place during the Coaches' Meeting beginning at 7:45 p.m. Packets
will include bib numbers, hip numbers, pins, chips (two per athlete), course maps, box numbers and final
instructions.
Bay State Race Services will be handling all timing, scoring and results. Each entered student-athlete
will be issued a bib number, hip number and two computer chips to be worn around each ankle. All chips
will be collected in the corral at the end of the of the chute.
Unofficial results will be posted on a board near the finish line for competitors,
spectators and coaches to reference. Official results will be posted online at
www.ncaasports.com, www.coolrunning.com and on this site.
Hard copies of results will be distributed to coaches at the awards ceremony.

CUMBERLAND, Maine -- For the second consecutive year, senior Edgar Kosgey
(Eldoret River Valley, Kenya) of the Williams College Ephs men’s cross country
team crossed the finish line first at the NCAA Division III New England Regional
Championship, leading the Ephs to their second straight automatic berth into the
NCAA Division III National Championship race.

If weather permits, the awards ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Red Barn at
the Twin Brooks site. In the event of inclement weather, the awards ceremony will be held
at the Costello Sports Complex on the USM Gorham campus at 2:00 p.m.
Coaches Association Awards will be presented to the top three teams and to the top
35 individual finishers in each races.
Course Map
This very spectator friendly course proceeds straight from the starting line for
approximately 122 meters (400 feet). A slight incline into the first gradual
left hand turn at 375 meters (1,226 feet) and then a gradual downhill. At 552
meters (1,810 feet) the course takes a wide right turn and then bears right up
hill and then bears right again at 988 meters (3,240 feet). A slight incline
and at 1,112 meters (3,650 feet) the men’s course bears left along the tree line
for rolling hills. The women’s course stays straight along soccer field and
then turns left and heads towards soccer field and trails into the woods. The
remainder of the course consists of fields, rolling hills and dirt trails
through the woods. The course is 100 percent grass/trails.
The course will be marked with a combination of painted arrows on the ground,
stakes, flagging, police line and small survey flags. Mile markers will be
posted and mile splits will be read. Marshals will be stationed throughout the
course to direct runners.

Friday, November 13 - A Certified Athletic Trainer will be at the race site (Twin Brooks) from
12 p.m. until dusk. ONLY Ice and Heat will be available at the race site
Certified Athletic Trainers will be in the Costello Sports Complex Training Room on the USM
Gorham campus from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. for treatments of electric stim, ultrasound, whirlpools, heat
and ice.
Athletes are asked to bring their own taping supplies to the race site and training room.
Saturday, November 14 - Certified Athletic Trainers will be in the Costello Sports Complex Training Room
from 8 a.m - 9:30 a.m. for treatments of electric stim, ultrasound, whirlpools, heat and ice. THIS IS
THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY FOR ATHLETES TO RECEIVE ELECTRIC THERAPIES ON RACE DAY.
Water/Gatorade and ice will be made available at the finish line.
Any special requests should be directed to Nick VanVught, ATC - (207) 780-5943. Athletes from visiting schools
are encouraged to bring specific directions/instructions for electric therapies from their Certified Athletic
Trainer.
Portable toilets will be located near the starting line. There is also a bathroom for men
and women at the Red Barn. Showers will be available for competitors at the Costello
Sports Complex.
Event 1 is the official supplier of NCAA Merchandise. Merchandise will be available forsale at the Red
Barn at Twin Brooks on Friday (during course inspection) and Saturday.
An Information Tent will be located near the starting line. The information table will also act as
the protest table, late packet pick up and chip returns if a runner was missed during the corral.
Team Van Parking will be directed to a specific area. Please be sure to display parking pass
on dashboard.
Buses can drop off and then will be re-directed to Greely Middle School.
Spectators will be able to park at Twin Brooks at the parking lot located off of Greely Road.
Parking attendants will direct vehicles to appropriate spots.


The Lions' Club will be selling food at the Red Barn. Pizza, hotdogs, drinks,
coffee, hot chocolate, snacks.
