Advanced Acting,
IV - Intensive study and practice of methods employed by Stanislavski,
Strasberg, Meisner, Hagen and Boal.
Acting Performance - A condensed overview of acting technique,
including movement, voice, improvisation, play analysis and scene study.
Acting I - Stage Movement - Awareness of the body as a creative
instrument is emphasized through the use of Tai Chi, Yoga, Feldenkrais,
Michael Chekhov techniques, clowning, stage combat and improvisation.
Acting II - Stage Voice - A variety of training methods (Linklater,
Lessac, Berry) are used in order to develop a strong, flexible, articulate,
resonant, responsive voice for the actor and all students wishing to enhance
their vocal presentation.
Acting III - Acting Technique and Scene Study - Acting exercises
based on the techniques of Stanislavski, Strasberg and Meisner are combined
with coached presentations of contemporary theatre scenes and monologues.
Acting V - Shakespeare and Period Styles - Advanced movement and
voice training within the styles demanded by period plays, from Greek
to Absurdist, culminating in the performance of scenes and monologues
from each genre.
Professional Auditioning and Marketing Techniques - In addition
to the simulation of diverse audition situations, students are provided
with information which is vital to securing professional work, including
advice on resumes, agents, unions, and opportunities in New York, Los
Angeles and regional theatres.
Life Imitates Art: Understanding Human Behaviour - an interdisciplinary,
team-taught course which focuses on common threads in the fields of theatre
and psychology and their application to the self, emotion and communication.
The Techniques of Michael Chekhov - Team-taught as a summer intensive
with guest actor/teachers from the Michael Chekhov Drama Group of Los
Angeles - Lisa Dalton and Mala Powers (executrix of the M. Chekhov estate).
This course features the methods of Michael Chekhov and culminates with
a public works-in-progress performance.
Creative Drama - This course introduces methods of teaching drama,
particularly to primary through secondary school students, wth an emphasis
upon linking theatre activities with the rest of the curriculum. The course
includes on-site teaching practice at a variety of local schools.
British Tour - Advanced acting students develop
an original performance piece via research, improvisation and scripting
which tours to King Alfred's College, Winchester, England, as part of
a long-standing exchange program.
Topics in Acting and Performance - This advanced
theatre course provides the opportunity to teach diverse material. Current
topic: The application of Michael Chekhov's acting techniques to scenes
and monologues.
Acting for Young Adults - Teach and supervise
classes for grades 7 - 12 in a summer residence program on the University
of Southern Maine Gorham campus.
