The USM Alumni Association Scholarship was established at the University of Southern Maine in 1996 by the University of Southern Maine Board of Directors. The fund shall be used to provide scholarship assistance to sons, grandsons, daughters and graddaughters or spouses of alumni who graduated from USM or one of its predecessor institutions (Gorham Normal School, Portland Junior College, Gorham State Teachers College, Gorham State College, University of Maine at Portland University of Maine at Portland-Gorham. The University of Maine System now has an Adult Degree Completion Scholarship Fund to help Maine people complete their academic studies—which may have begun years ago, but were not completed for some reason.
