- M.S. in Adult and Higher Education, U.S.M.
- B.S. in Social Science, Portland State University
My “day” job is as the Director of Academic Administration in USM’s School of Education and Human Development. After a long tenure of wandering through my baccalaureate study I received my B.S. degree in Social Science. Much quicker I attained my M.S. in Adult and Higher Education in 2014. For the past 25 years I have worked in student services, ten years at a community college where I ended my tenure there as the coordinator of a transfer and career center. At USM for 15 years I served in various capacities but always working with students. In my latest position I have multiple roles as a catalog editor, course scheduler, coordinator of the scholarship program, and all around problem solver for both faculty and students.
I teach the introductory course, HRD 555 Introduction to Student Affairs in Higher Education. My areas of expertise include transfer students, financial literacy, and self-authorship through learning and development. Learning about the history of higher education has really helped me to see how closely the history of higher education matches the general U.S. history. It is fascinating!
When not working and teaching I spend time with my husband of 35 years and our adult son. I’ve been a life-long gardener – organically, where my love of nurturing and taking care of living things began early in my life and has sustained my pursuit of wanting to help others and perpetually learning.
