Being part white as well as part Penobscot and Maliseet, the Native side of Katie’s family is originally from Wabanaki territory now known as Moosehead Lake. She began working for the University of Southern Maine as a Professional Academic Advisor in 2020 in the Portland Advising office. Katie is a liaison for the Departments of Sociology, Criminology, Economics as well as the School of Social Work.
She attended University of Southern Maine and University of Maine Farmington receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences with a focus in Holistic and Integrative Health and Community Health. She is currently finishing her Masters in Policy, Planning, and Management at University of Southern Maine.
Katie has a TESOL certification and previously taught English as a Second Language throughout Thailand. She also has her yoga teaching certification and is a Nationally Certified Health Education Specialist. Some of Katie’s other experience includes working with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated populations through Maine Wabanaki REACH, the Justice Policy Program at Cutler Institute, the Center for Compassionate Living, and Portland Public Health.
She has a passion for encouraging equity in higher education as well as supporting individuals in their educational and career endeavors.
In her spare time she enjoys being in nature, teaching breathwork and meditation, connecting with family and friends, assisting on Non-Violent Communication trainings, and more.
