Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Joseph E. LaPlante Jr. was born in Worcester, Mass. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving active-duty more than 30 years. Before joining the USM ROTC program in 2007, CSM LaPlante served in many positions, to include the following:

CSM LaPlante is married to Patricia LaPlante and they have two adult daughters, Crystal and Heather.
