USM Art Department

Empty Studios SP2020

Anna Labbe

Open Studios has always been the time for USM Art students to shine and show off work completed over the course of a semester.  Open Studios is generally held on the last Friday of classes in the Robie-Andrews Art Studios, Drawing and Academy Buildings, and the Print Shop on the Gorham Campus.  Students typically invite their family and friends to see the artwork on display, meet faculty and classmates, and celebrate the successful end of the semester.   But this year, because of COVID-19, the Art Studios were shuttered, and students and faculty could only meet via Zoom.  Yet this doesn’t mean USM’s Art Students stopped working after the Studio doors were locked on March 22nd.  To celebrate our students’ resilience and creative spirits, the Art Department is hosting a Virtual Open Studios this year.  Amazingly, most of this work on display was created by students working at home while classes carried on remotely.  Please click on the Disciplines below to enter our Virtual Open Studio Galleries, and see all the wonderful work USM Art students have created despite all the obstacles imposed during these unprecedented times!
