GORHAM, Maine – Freshman guard Kristen Curley (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore forward Chantel Eells(Turner, Maine/Leavitt) of the University of Southern Maine women's basketball team have each been recognized by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (MWBCA).
Eells, a 2017 Little East Conference all-rookie selection, is earning MWBCA Honor Roll distinction for the fifth time this season (Feb. 20, Feb. 6, Jan. 30, Jan. 22 and Dec. 5), while Curley is earning her ninth MWBCA Rookie of the Week honor (Feb. 20, Feb. 13, Jan.30, Jan. 22, Jan. 9, Jan. 3, Dec.12, Dec. 5 and Nov.28). Curley is also a two-time MWBCA Rookie honor roll pick (Feb. 6, Jan. 16).
Recording her sixth double-double of the season, Eells had another strong week for the Huskies, averaging 13 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 assists per game over two games. At home against UMass Boston, Eells matched her career-high with 18 points, shooting a stellar 6-for-9 from the floor, while snagging 10 rebounds.
