GORHAM, Maine – Returning a veteran core, including several 2017 All-Little East Conference selection, the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2018 Little East Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. UMass Boston, last season's tournament winner, was picked to finish atop the conference standings.
The Huskies are in a three-way tie with conference opponents UMass Dartmouth and Eastern Connecticut for fourth place in the poll. Southern Maine finished last season with a 15-16 overall record and a 7-7 mark in LEC action.
Southern Maine begins its 2018 season in Florida, and will throw its first pitch against St. Mary's (Indiana) on Monday, March 12 (2:00 pm). Led by sixth year head coach Sarah Jamo, the 2015 Little East Conference Coach of the Year, the Huskies return a veteran lineup including its four team captains seniors Amber Kelly (Berwick, Maine/Noble) and Taylor Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) and juniors Brooke Cross (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Brittany Plowman (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough).
