GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly honors Monday afternoon (February 22) recognizing athletes in the sport of women’s track and field with the University of Southern Maine sweeping all the honors.
Freshman Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) was a double honoree collecting the Track Athlete of the Week and Rookie Track Athlete of the Week citations. Senior Samantha Comeau (Maple Grove, Minn.) was tabbed as the Field Athlete of the Week, and rookie Lexi Kailey (Epping, N.H.) was the recipient of the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week honor.
The Huskies distance medley relay quartet composed of juniors Emily Colby (Lunenburg, Vt.) and Olivia Richmond (Jefferson, Maine), freshman Vanessa DiRisi (Scarborough, Maine) and graduate student Lucy Knowlton (Portland, Maine) were named the Relay of the Week.
Participating in her first collegiate meet, Gould was a double winner coming home first in the 55-meter dash and the 200 meters. Gould won the 55 with a time of 7.60 seconds in the finals. She posted the second quickest time of 7.54 in the trials and moved into 10th place on the USM all-time top 10 list for the event. Gould came back later in the day to take the 200 with a time of 27.59.
For the second weekend in a row, Comeau won the weight throw and also placed second in the shot put. She won the weight with a throw of 12.82 meters (42-0¾). In the shot put, Comeau had a best throw of 10.38 meters (34-0¾).
For the second consecutive week, Kailey stood atop the podium in the shot put. Competing in a field of 15 competitors, Kailey won the event with a throw of 11.05 meters (36-3) coming on her first attempt.
The USM DMR quartet posted the winning time of 14:02.11. With conversion (13:53.19), the Huskies stand 16th nationally according to the TFRSS descending order list.
