GORHAM, Maine – Twenty University of Southern Maine Huskies' spring sport student-athletes have been recognized by the Little East Conference for their academic achievements, earning each student-athlete a spot on the 2018 Little East Conference Spring All-Academic Team. Student-athletes from each of Southern Maine's seven Little East Conference (LEC) sponsored teams have representatives on the All-Academic Team: baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, softball, men's tennis, men's outdoor track & field, and women's outdoor track & field.
In order to earn the LEC All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must be at least sophomores in standing academically, have a cumulative 3.30 or higher grade point average through the previous semester, and have been at his or her current institution for at least one full academic year.
Eleven different academic majors are represented by the Huskies' 20 LEC Spring All-Academic Team honorees. Ten Huskies have a grade point average of 3.60 or higher led by junior Colin Jones (Scarborough, Maine) 3.85 GPA. A General Management major, Jones is a three-year member of the Huskies' men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams, and helped the Huskies to a conference titles in both the outdoor and indoor seasons.
Many of the student-athletes honored by the LEC for their academic achievements are some of the top performers in their sport at the conference, regional and national level. Sophomores Alexis Brown (Malden, Mass.) and Erin Martin (Biddeford, Maine) of the softball team, junior Emily Close (Orleans, Vt.) of the women's outdoor track and field team, and senior Nate DelGiudice (Oakland, Maine) of the men's lacrosse team are a few of the Huskies' top student-athletes in competition and in the classroom.
