The Bertha Crosley Ball Center for Compassion

Student Spotlight

In Spring 2021, the Center sponsored two of our star USM students, Grace Muheto (L) and Kabena Mutombo (R), to attend Reclaiming Resilience, a half day retreat offered by BIPOC Courage of Care facilitators. We did this with the understanding that our global majority (BIPOC) students carry an extra burden of navigating everyday aggressions and worse overt racism in most of our institutions. This retreat was designed by BIPOC folx to allow other BIPOC folx to gather, share their stories, and rejuvenate.

One of these students, Kabena Mutumbo, also was selected as an Emerging Leader Fellow for the Courage of Care Summer Intensive.
