USM’s Kate Cheney Chappell ’83 Center for Book Arts to Present Book Arts Bazaar

March 24, 2014

PORTLAND, Maine – In a city where indie fairs and festivals offering handmade products are increasingly popular, the University of Southern Maine (USM) Kate Cheney Chappell ’83 Center for Book Arts is presenting its fourth annual Book Arts Bazaar.

The bazaar, slated for next month on the USM Portland campus, includes more than 40 artisan vendors -- book artists, papermakers, bookbinders, printmakers, educators and writers -- who will sell handmade goods such as fine press books, artists’ books, broadsides, fine bindings, decorated papers and journals. Many vendors are from Maine and others will travel from as far away as New York.

The details of the event are:

Book Arts Bazaar, 10 a.m. -3 p.m., Sunday, April 6, Wishcamper Center, USM Portland Campus, 34 Bedford St., Portland; vendors will accept cash or checks; free and open to the public; for more information, call (207) 228-8014 or go to http://usm.maine.edu/bookarts.

“We are thrilled to present the Book Arts Bazaar again this year,” said Rebecca Goodale, coordinator for the Chappell center. “The bazaar is a fun and friendly event. It’s a chance to see what the talented members of the northeast book arts community have been working on and to connect with others, chat, and make new friends.”

The mission of the Kate Cheney Chappell ’83 Center for Book Arts is to delight, engage and enlighten book artists and the wider public through outstanding exhibits, lectures and workshops related to book arts.
