Sarah Harvey graduated with a BFA in Painting from the University of Southern Maine in 2001. Prior to that she worked in the medical field for 25 years. This art education has given her many hours of happiness, as a second career, for the past 20 years.
She is a realist and paints with watercolor, and casein tempera, and makes artist books. Her subject, the natural world, never fails to amaze and amuse her. Painting invites her to observe the visible world more clearly. It is a way of offering praise to the universe, like writing a poem. She is as excited about the images of open sky, islands, low tide, spruce trees, and beaches as she was the first time she came to Maine in 1970. Sometimes, birds and animals add to the enjoyment. She fears for the loss of the beauty and uniqueness of our land, state forests, natural areas, and shorelines, through our greed and miscalculations. So she preserves these scenes for herself, the people who share her eye and love of a certain spot on the road as they walk or ride by, and for those who could appreciate them should they stop for a moment.
