Join this lecture to learn more about our Spring 2023 Aritst-in-Residence, Veronica A. Perez — the themes they examine, the media they work with, and how you can get involved in their residency.

This lecture will be held in-person at the Glickman Library in the 7th Floor Events room, and simultaneously streamed via Zoom. To sign up for the zoom webinar, click here. For accommodation requests, please contact Kat Zagaria Buckley, Director of Art Exhibitions and Outreach.

Perez’s work lies between interdisciplinary sculpture and community practice, encouraging a reflection on identity for participants and viewers alike. Their project with the University of Southern Maine will be an immersive installation featuring hair, hands, and oral stories that ruminate on themes such as fractured identity, representation, and power through the vision of students and community members in USM and Portland and how these intimate stories can comment on larger systemic issues that affect BIPOC folx in the immediate communities.

To view more information about Perez and their work, please visit Perez’s website.

This project is made possible with generous support from the University of Southern Maine Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Council, the University’s Center for Collaboration and Development. Funded by the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Arts Commission.
