SUMMARY:Microcosmos
DESCRIPTION:  \nA microcosm is a smaller system that reflects the characteristics of a much larger system\, essentially a “little world” or a miniature version of a larger genre. Three chamber works\, one idea: music that contains more than it appears to. Mozart’s Oboe Quartet is intimate on paper—four players—and enormous in practice. Beethoven’s Septet borrows the sweep of a full symphony and fits it into seven instruments. In between\, a quintet by Ruth Gipps\, a British composer you may not know yet\, but probably should. \nProgram\nMozart | Oboe Quartet in F Major\, K. 370\nGipps | Quintet\, Op. 16\, for oboe\, clarinet\, violin\, viola and cello\nBeethoven | Septet in E-flat Major\, Op. 20 \nPerformers\nRobert Lehmann\, violín\nKimberly Lehmann\, viola\nWilliam Rounds\, cello\nJered Egan\, bass\nAlessandro Ciraficci\, oboe\nThomas Parchman\, clarinet\nWren Saunders\, bassoon\nVirginia Morales\, horn \n\n\nTickets go on-sale September 4th\, and are available through PortTIX\, the official box office for the Osher School of Music. \n\nPHONE 207-842-0800ONLINE www.porttix.comIN-PERSON 400 Congress St Suite A\, Portland\, ME 04101\n\nEvent Details\nParking\nDue to limited resources\, parking is not free on our Portland and Gorham campuses.
