DESCRIPTION:“No. 6: Colonizing in North and Central America Since 1400 (detail)” painting by Dan Mills\n  \nJoin us for the opening reception of Visceral Cartography: Projects on Colonialism\, Conflict\, and Culture by Dan Mills at the Osher Map Library Gallery from 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday\, Sept. 15th\, 2026. The event is free and open to the public\, light refreshments will be served. \nVisceral Cartography: Projects on Colonialism\, Conflict\, and Culture by Dan Mills is a solo exhibition featuring artwork selected from 11 series\, or Research Projects\, plus several early works; by the artist. Dan Mills works with archival materials to express historical events and reimagined narratives\, collaging elements from maps onto board and other materials\, layering many colors of paint and other media on top. He selectively reworks portions of each piece to expose overpainted layers and information. Mills’ extensive research practice informs the visualization of each series\, which often explore place-based histories and narratives that are absent from or undermined by mainstream media. \nThe exhibition runs until December 23. There is no fee for our programs\, which are made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Québec Delegation in Boston. \nAward-winning author Ron Currie dazzled readers last spring with his exhilarating\, genre-bending turn to crime\, The Savage\, Noble Death of Babs Dionne. Hart is an interdisciplinary artist and writer from Maine living in the Hudson Valley\, New York. She is the author of two books of poetry: Boomhouse (2023\, The 3rd Thing Press)\, which won the 2024 Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize\, and What Came Down in the Smoke (2026\, JackLeg Press). She is a 2023 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Poetry and the 2022 Hellen Ingram Plummer Fellow at MacDowell. Her creative work has been supported by Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and Vermont Studio Center.
