Accessing University Technical Resources for Your Maine Business

On Wednesday, March 13th, 2013, the University of Maine will host an informational session for Maine entrepreneurs and small businesses focusing on how to access technical resources available from Maine’s two largest public universities. The event will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in Arthur St. John Hill Auditorium (165 Barrows Hall – College of Engineering), University of Maine campus, Orono, ME 04469

UMaine’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) offers services to businesses, entrepreneurs, inventors, and researchers, and helps to transform ideas into tangible concepts. AMC specializes in the prototyping and testing of products and materials. Working together, this partnership is able to provide an extensive offering of technical expertise and resources. USM’s Campus Ventures program offers assistance to Maine companies and university faculty interested in commercializing new technologies, products, and manufacturing projects. Campus Ventures specializes in the prototyping and design, and development and testing of products.

The staff will be demonstrating some of the University's R&D equipment, a Z-Corp Z800 3D laser scanner and 3D printers. The Z800 is capable of real time 3D laser surface capture up to .0015" scan accuracy, and is very useful for reverse engineering and scanning hand-built prototypes for further CAD work.
