Peer Career Guide Program

Peer Career Guides (PCGs) are USM students who are trained to guide fellow students in career-related activities. Peer Career Guides support students with resume and cover letter development through 1-on-1 conversations. The goal is to promote student success by offering direct, career-related services and resources. Peer Career Guides support students based on individual needs. Our values include:

Bianca Arcencio, M.S. Ed.

Academic Degree:

  • M.S.Ed. in TESOL, University of Southern Maine 2021


Bianca is the Graduate Assistant for the Career & Employment Hub and for the ESOL Department. She has experience in designing and implementing a training program. She is excited to be part of the Peer Career Guide team to support students elevate their resumes and cover letters. Bianca is currently pursuing her second Master’s in Adult and Higher Education. She has over 15 years of experience as an ESL teacher. Bianca has worked with elementary students, teenagers, and adults.

Montana Kalian

Academic Degree:

  • B.A. in Social and Behavioral Sciences, University of Southern Maine December 2022


Montana Kalian joined the peer career guide team in March of 2022. In addition to working with students, she works with the Program Manager on Grant Writing. After a 6 year hiatus from higher education, she returned to USM in the Spring of 2021 to finish her Bachelor’s Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. As an adult learner and former healing arts practitioner, Montana knows firsthand that there are a wide multitude of successful career paths. Sometimes, the most interesting ones, and maybe the one that is right for you, do not always follow a linear structure. Outside of USM, she is a Human Resources Recruiter, reviewing resumes, cover letters, and interviewing candidates. Montana is excited to be a member of the PCG team working with USM students to help translate their strengths and accomplishments into successful and exciting futures of meaningful work.

Ielaf Khalil, M.S. Ed.

Ielaf Khalil joined the Career and Employment Hub in February of 2022. She works as the Project Assistant for the Peer Career Guide Program. Ielaf communicates with the team to ensure undergraduate students are receiving the best services. She works closely with the program manager to plan marketing projects and set goals. In addition, she collaborates with other departments to promote the program and reach as many students as possible. She is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Leadership and is very passionate about student affairs. Her goal is to enhance students’ college experience to generate better outcomes and provide sufficient resources for students to be successful.

Rebecca Sammon

Academic Degree:

Rebecca (she/her/hers) began working at the Career and Employment Hub as an intern in January of 2022. Since joining the HUB, she has worked as a member of the Peer Career Guide team to help design, develop, and implement the Peer Career Guide Program. She is passionate about serving the diverse student population at USM. She strives to help individuals to see their strengths and pursue their career paths with confidence. She received her undergraduate degree in Leadership and Organizational Studies and is currently pursuing her masters in Clinical Counseling.
