Lunch & Learn: Creating a Culture of Access for Students with Disabilities

March 26, 2019
12:00 PM to 1:30 PM
UER - 7th floor Glickman Library - Portland Campus

USM is committed to providing inclusive learning environments for students with disabilities. As the number of students with disabilities continues to increase, how can we shift our thinking and practices from individual accommodations to designing more inclusive and barrier free environments? This presentation is designed to help participants understand both the student and university responsibilities under the law and to learn about USM student population and barriers related to access. It will also explore the intersections of disability with other forms of diversity and discuss ways to best support our diverse student body. We hope participants will leave with practical strategies to increase inclusive design and thinking on campus.

If you have questions about access or need to request a sign language interpreter, please contact Joanne Benica at joanne.benica@maine.edu or Adrea Jaehnig at adrea.jaehnig@maine.edu."

Presenters: Joanne Benica and Adrea Jaehnig, Director and Assistant Director of the Disability Services Center
