USM Nurse Pinning ceremony 2014

2016 Nurse Pinning Ceremony - May 13

The 2016 USM Nurse Pinning ceremony is being held on Friday, May 13, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.

This traditional ceremony is held by the USM Nursing program three times each year, in August, December and May. May’s is the largest with 65 or so undergraduate students (students from both Portland and Lewiston campuses) and 30 or so graduate students participating in this particular ceremony.

The nursing pin has served for over a century as a mark of distinction, of education and of excellence. A school pin has long been something that is worn with pride. The USM pin is a silver circle with blue lettering and displays the USM Logo in the center. The pin represents USM’s three campuses with the three pillars. The pillars’ flame shape suggests a torch, which is commonly associated with education and knowledge. The flame shape also represents illumination, brilliance and change.
