Commencement 2021 will be held virtually.

This approach, while deeply disappointing for all of us, is necessary given the realities of the pandemic. Even if the most optimistic projections for vaccine delivery are realized over the next three months, we will not be able to gather safely in the numbers that our traditional, in-person celebration would require. As we have more than 1,200 graduates in the Class of 2021, holding an in-person event in these circumstances would be inherently unfair, as it would require us to exclude some of the graduates and their families, who would very much want to and have every right to attend.

We are planning to hold an in-person recognition event for the Class of 2020/2021 during USM Homecoming in October 2021.
