Celebrated Black History Month Speakers

Daniel Minter, Georgia-born Maine artist, most recently honored with a Caldecott award for his children's illustrations, will discuss his work inspired by the history of Malaga Island: "At the Mouth of the River: Retelling the Malaga Island Story."    




Myron Beasley, Associate Professor of American Studies at Bates College and National Endowment for the Humanities winner, will discuss the need to challenge mythical "grand narratives" of Maine's past in his talk, "Against the Master Narrative: Tall Tales and Maine's Bicentennial."
