Campus Food Pantry

Food insecurity is an everyday problem for many of our students and community members at USM. Did you know that around 36% of college students experience food insecurity? There are many levels of food insecurity, from not having access to affordable healthy and nutritious meal options, to not having affordable access to a sufficient amount of food at all. The Dean of Students and Student Affairs office is proud to operate the On-Campus Food Pantry to combat food insecurity on our campuses. In addition to our food pantry in the Woodbury Campus Center in Portland, there is now food available for students on the Gorham and Lewiston-Auburn campuses.

We are committed to helping students and anybody within the USM community to have food security and peace of mind when it comes to thinking about their next meal. Anybody is welcome to utilize the food pantry. We stock foods that are easy to eat between classes and non-perishable items that can be prepared at home. We also carry feminine hygiene products, as well as reusable bags so you can easily take food home.

Where is the food pantry and when can I access it?

The Woodbury Commuter Lounge & Food Pantry is located in the Woodbury Campus Center in Portland, next to the small computer lab and Information Desk. The pantry is accessible Monday - Thursday, 8:30am - 8:00pm and Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm. If the door to the lounge is locked because a staff member is not present, please visit the Student Affairs office in the back of Woodbury for assistance.

The Gorham Food Pantry is located in the Free Store in Lower Brooks. The Free Store is open on Wednesdays, 11:00am - 1:30pm and on Monday's by request. Please e-mail Oona Molyneaux at for requests and questions.

The Lewiston-Auburn Food Pantry is located in the Library on the far right wall towards the front. Clothing and other essentials for students are located in room 176, Student Lounge which is the last door on the right coming in from the front entrance. Please e-mail Samantha Patton at with any questions.

Who can access the food pantry?

Anybody at USM (students, faculty, staff and any family members) can access the pantry and take food.

How does it work?

Simply take the food that you need from the pantry. For your convenience, we have a box of reusable shopping bags you can fill up. The food pantry is student run and is usually staffed by a Graduate Assistant or a work study student should you have questions.

How do I give feedback and suggestions?

If you regularly use the food pantry, we want to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to fill out our anonymous survey on food insecurity and the USM food pantry. We are always open to suggestions, requests, and feedback that can help us improve the pantry and the way it works. The food pantry is here to serve our community. Thank you in advance for your input.
