Portland Children's Film Festival- I Am Eleven

Portland Children's Film FestivalThe University of Southern Maine is again Partnering with the Portland Children's Film Festival to bring students from Portland Public Schools to campus for a screening of a documentary film. This year, sixth graders will attend a screening of the documentary, I Am Eleven

There will also be a public showing on Wednesday, April 2nd at 7pm at the Abromson Community Education Center, Portland.

I am Eleven

Do you remember when you were 11? Australian filmaker Genevieve Bailey traveled the world for 6 years talking with 11-year-olds to compose this insightful funny and moving documentary portrait of childhood.  From and orphanage in India, to a single-parent household in inner city Melbourne, to bathing elephants in Thailand, I Am Eleven explores the lives and thoughts of children from 15 countries.  I Am Eleven weaves together deeply personal and at times hilarious portraits of what it means  to sit at the transitional age. These young minds provide us with a powerful insight into the future of our world.

It's 10 years of CeleSoiree!

The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) welcomes you to our 10th annual celebration of immigration through the arts.

This year, we welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning Maine author Elizabeth Strout as the keynote speaker, discussing her latest novel set in Maine, The Burgess Boys, and what she learned about the Somali community in researching the book, incredible multicultural music and dance performances from Voix des Anges and Olas, plus Maine art for sale.

Elizabeth StroutOur restaurant raffle is a popular part of the event and our live auction will be conducted by Chris Kast of Brand. We are putting together an evening that will celebrate the last 10 years and rev up Portland for the next 10.

As always, there will be fabulous music, dance, and an art sale, plus a reception that rivals any networking event you've ever attended. Bid on wonderful live auction items, or buy raffle tickets to support ILAP's social justice work in the community.

Handel & Haydn Society

The Handel and Haydn Society returns to the intimate Hannaford Hall for a concert inspired by Felix Mendelssohn’s own music library. His extensive collection contained works by composers from Handel to Mozart, whose compositions greatly influenced the composer early in his life. Electrifying concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky leads her fellow string players in a chamber program of baroque and classical works by George Frideric Handel, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach and Mendelssohn. Internationally recognized for its revelatory style that uses the instruments and techniques of the composer’s time, the Handel and Haydn Society is known for its unmatched artistry, and is considered America’s oldest continuously performing arts organization.

Blue Wrap Project 2014
Show begins at 7pm

Partners for World Health hosts an annual fashion show called the Blue Wrap Project. This is not your average runway event but the designs promise to delight and inspire as much as the latest line of couture fashion.

The annual Blue Wrap Project features wearable art fashion designs from talented people in the greater Portland area. The sky is the limit for these designers with one stipulation - every piece of fashion featured in this runway event is created using the discarded medical supply called Blue Wrap.
