Founded in 1952, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) serves as a multidisciplinary, teaching-and-research-oriented university focusing on economics, management, law, arts, and science. It offers full-time and part-time education programs, including 38 doctoral programs, 72 master’s programs, and 32 undergraduate programs. DUFE fosters the education of qualified professionals and integrates in-class teaching and extra-curricular learning to enhance students’ social responsibility, professional dedication, and sense of community.
To further broaden educational horizons, DUFE began to encourage international cooperation and exchange in 1994. With more than two decades of experience, the university has gradually brought about internationalization of instructional languages, teaching materials, curriculum systems, and administration patterns. Its language program focuses on teaching Chinese to non-native Chinese speakers and hosts over 1,000 international students from more than 100 countries every year. These students include Chinese language learners as well as those studying other majors, as all of DUFE programs are open to international students. So far, DUFE has established cooperative relationships with 96 universities, six international organizations, and one international agency that altogether span 18 different countries or regions. These relationships include one cooperative education institute, six collaborative programs, and two Confucius Institutes. DUFE has a special relationship with USM because the partnership between the two universities was DUFE’s first Confucius Institute.
DUFE is located west of Xinghai Park, a state-level scenic spot in Dalian, which is known for its tranquility and beauty. Dalian, a city of six million people, is located on the northeast coast of China. Like Portland, Dalian is a port city with four seasons, temperate climates, and a large tourism industry.
