He was remembered by longtime colleagues, Dr.Jack Sutton, Emeritas, Dr. Van Zandt and Dr. Reid Stevens, Emeritas who also spoke of Dr. Southworth’s legacy at USM. Joanne Southworth, his wife and one of his daughters, Lori were among the family members who shared photos and memories of the passion that Dr. Southworth had for counselor preparation and his great sense of humor during his tenure. His friend and the former Counseling Center Director, Dr. Ira Hymoff recalled his relationship with Dr. Southworth as well as his experiences as a long time instructor teaching for Counselor Education.
So many who attended remembered his love of family and devotion to Joanne, his children and grandchildren. Family, friends and former colleagues joined the faculty on a tour of the suite, where the plaque which bear the dedication name of the counseling lab suite was unveiled. Several photographs were taken of CED faculty, friends, family and colleagues of Dr. Southworth with the memorial plaque in the background.
