Elora Way, a University of Southern Maine Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate and Research Analyst at the Cutler Institute, and Katherine Ahrens, Assistant Research Professor of Public Health, just published a study in Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology. The study, "Out-of-hospital births and infant mortality in the United States: Effect measure modification by rural maternal residence," which began as Elora's MPH capstone, addresses a critical and timely public health and rural health policy issue that is receiving national attention, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic encourages more people to give birth outside of hospitals.
