Successful Local Government Internship Program

Carolyn Ball, in cooperation with the Maine Town City County Managers Association (MTCMA), successfully launched an internship program embedded into PPM 534 Managing Cities Towns and Counties. The purpose was to develop a pipeline of prospective town managers and, to a lesser extent, other local government employees, by giving students an academic grounding as they were completing an internship in the workplace. Funded by the MEIF, eight students worked on economic development projects in several municipal offices.

The course/internship culminated with students and their mentor town managers attending the three day New England Management Institute conference sponsored by the MTCMA.
