Counseling Intern
David (he/him) is an Intern at USM Counseling Services, and a graduate student in the Counselor Education department, currently completing a degree in Clinical Mental Health. He holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, MA) in Jazz Studies where he also completed Doctoral studies.
David is conscious of the unique needs of each individual, and draws from a variety of modalities and theories to help clients gain awareness, reduce symptoms, develop coping skills, and gain holistic wellness. He is passionate about attachment theory, and oriented in aspects of Feminist Therapy, Multicultural Therapy, Existential Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy as the foundation for his counseling work.
David is particularly motivated in supporting people in the LGBTQ+ community, and his professional goal is to specialize in working with this population. Many of his projects for his graduate courses have been focused on LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly issues involving Bisexual people and mental health.
David is a student member of Maine Mental Health Counselors Association (MEMHCA), and enjoys professional development, and consistent learning inside and outside of the USM graduate program.
David has a background in teaching at the college level, and is excited to transfer some of those skills in working with adults in emerging adulthood as well as people in other phases of life at Counseling Services.
David enjoys documentaries, feature films, series, music, walking, reading, and connecting with people.
