Athletic Training Education Program Receives Accreditation Extension

The Department of Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) recently received a three year accreditation extension from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Originally planned for the 2013/2014 academic year, the Program's next accreditation visit is scheduled for 2016/2017. The USM's ATEP, which received its initial accreditation in 2002, was the first accredited ATEP in the State of Maine. The Program, which prepares students to provide health care services to athletes and physically active individuals, currently enrolls 106 students. In addition to completing didactic and laboratory courses on the Gorham and Portland campuses, students enrolled in the ATEP obtain clinical experiences at 20 clinical agencies in Southern Maine.
