Online Learning and the Future of UMS

USM has been offering online courses for years, but the demand far outweighs the supply. Moreover, the technology has matured to the point where online courses can engage students more effectively than traditional face-to-face courses.

Professor Bud McGrath

F.C. "Bud" McGrath is Professor of English at the University of Southern Maine. His areas of interest include Irish literature and culture, literary theory, and nineteenth and twentieth-century British literature. His publications include Brian Friel’s (Post)Colonial Drama: Language, Illusion, and Politics (Syracuse UP, 1999) and The Sensible Spirit: Walter Pater and the Modernist Paradigm (University Presses of Florida, 1986) as well as numerous chapters, articles, and conference papers on Irish writers. His third book Language, Identity, and Nationalism: Ireland's Field Day Theatre Company is nearing completion. He has served in a number of leadership roles in the English Department and in the College, including department chair and interim dean. He has served on advisory boards for the American Irish Repertory Ensemble (Portland, ME) and for the Repertory Company (Philadelphia, PA).
