Growth for the Mechanical Engineering Program

The mechanical engineering program at USM is rapidly growing. The department has received authorization to add another faculty member to support the program. This will allow the department to expand its offerings which also will help the closely coupled electrical engineering program. So both programs will be helped by this new addition.

Students Excel at ASEE Northeast Conference

The American Society of Engineering Education Northeast Section Conference was held at UMass Lowell April 27th and 28th 2012. There were 388 attendees with nearly 200 students attending.

New Scholarship Available from the Solid Waste Association of North America

SWANA is offering a $1,000 scholarship for the current academic year for undergraduates or graduate students committed to a degree closely tied to Solid Waste Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field of study.

Mechanical Engineering Faculty and Student to Present at National Conference

Dr. Mehrdaad Ghorashi, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Jacob Finley, a mechanical engineering major, have had a paper accepted for publication and presentation at the 120th national American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

STEM Scholarship Recipients Named at USM

The University of Southern Maine has named its 2012-2013 recipients of the National Science Foundation STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Scholarships.

Mechanical Engineering Student Featured in Biofuels Article

Matt Pemberton, a senior in USM's Mechanical Engineering program, is chief operating office for Maine Standard Biofeuls. Pemberton and Maine Standard Biofeuls, Maine's only commercial biodiesel plant, were featured in a Portland Press Herald article regarding a tax incentive meant to boost production of biofeuls this year.
